You'd be fighting full grown adults for your fights to get it. 16 is just where the line is drawn, and that's for a junior black belt. You really don't 'black' belt until you're 18 years old.

Your right though. I'm a black belt in ABKA and I worked very hard to get it, yet watching this just raises questions about the style our training. I would love to get training as close to the old ways as possible!

Practicing in the makiwara is not dangerous. Yes, unfortunately in the west, they focus more on sports karate rather than traditional karate.
