The song is about doing a small favor for someone,it gets screwed up and you end up doing a bunch of stuff for everyone else, and then you wonder how you got there. He went to Nazereth to give regards for Miss Fannie or Annie( it changes in the song) and of course in the song you hear that gets all complicated from there.Case in point, "The road to hell is paved with good intentions" Lets not argue over one of the greatest songs ever written.
