elg is way better than morceli

it was not done on purpose. the minute el g hit morceli's foot, morceli's leg extended into a backward motion he could control.i wish we could of seen him challenge el g though. el g ended morcelli's reign a year later and the rest is history. morcelli's ruled half of the 90's but el g became the all time best.

thus, he had to had known that there was a mass of runners behind him, thus moving to the outside would have been a completely illogical and suicidal move for morceli's race ... it would serve no purpose unless morceli realized that if he moved to the outside temporarily there would be an increasing likely hood he could somehow impede el g's progress enough to give him a decisive advantage
finess4eva (July 11, 2008 at 5:45 pm)
second, if you move to the outside, you only do so when you know that there is nobody behind you or if there is somebody behind you, you make sure that there is enough distance so if you do move to the outside you won't collide with the runner ... at the time that he collided with el g this was not the case for morceli ... though he was in the lead morceli was one of the runners closest to the rail of track ...

this is what the fact that his right leg was the only part of his body that extended to the outside while the rest of his body had forward momentum all the more suspicious ... what were his motives ... ostensible it seems morceli sacrificed optimum forward momentum, at a time when he was being directly challenged and did not need to fear being boxed in, in the effort to achieve an ulterior motive
finess4eva (July 11, 2008 at 5:31 pm)
first, he scarifies optimum efficiency ... this seems weird to me especially at a time when he was being directly challenged by el g ... second, morceli was in the lead and hence did not need to move to the outside ...if el g made a move morceli could have easily responded by matching his speed ... thus, morceli did not need to worry about being boxed in
finess4eva (July 11, 2008 at 5:20 pm)
you travel sideways by moving to the outside of the track and the only time you are suppose to move to the outside is to avoid a runner or pack of runners that are potentially impeding your forward momentum.... morceli broke his stride ever so slightly, extending his right foot to the side of the track instead of letting his right foot propel further down the track ... this is peculiar for two reasons
finess4eva (July 11, 2008 at 5:19 pm)
to me, morceli's right leg extending out as far as it did was not accidental ... there are three reasons for this ... my first reason may seem incredible self-evident, nevertheless it is necessary to establish my case ... as a runner you are taught to conserve as much energy as possible ... one of the ways to do this by travelling the shortest distance possible, and that would include traveling forward as much as possible as opposed to the travelling sideways ... |
