The greatest lyric voice ever produced by Germany...yes he was trained in the German way and has a very authentic German sound...not very Italian, but Mozart just melts in his mouth.

Fritz was da man. Dude could sing. Technique that threatened to incinerate a Boesendorfer...

Though I am myself a young baritone, I much prefer to listen to the typical tennor then baritone. I wish baritones in general were lighter in their tones. That being said, this guy is great, and I love the opening of this aria.

From what I've heard I'd have to agree :)

He is the best Mozart tenor ever!

Yes and I am really fussy but he was as lyric tenors go better then most any of them --so tragic, he had it all and look at what we have today by comparison, at least at the moment.

Great sound and ring in his voice without sounding manufactured and hooty. Lovely. As many have said, such a shame he died so young.

I am in total agreement with your comment pearlmuth3.Inasmuch as he was only 35 or 36 when he died, given his fine technique,he would have only gotten better in his forties.I've heard a few of his recordings in Italian and they are very good. With his seamless legato, great technique and gorgeous timbre,I rank him among the all time great lyric tenors.Bravissimo Fritz!
