I think it is illegal to slaughter horses in the U.S. but I'm not sure about other countries that border us, like Canada and Mexico. Either it's illegal, or they're working on making it illegal. Sadly, if they are caught shipping the horses to the plant but are headed to canada, they aren't punished (but you might want to do some research here)

So how about everybody stops bitching and moaning about slaughter and start creating a market for former racehorses in the riding horse business. THE TRUTH IS THAT THE RIDING HORSE BUSINESS FROWNS UPON EX-RACEHORSES EVEN THOUGH MANY OF THEM CAN BE EXCELLENT RIDING HORSES! I LOVE HORSES AND WATCHING THIS MAKES ME SAD AND SICK BUT THERE IS NOTHING THAT WILL STOP IT EXCEPT ACTION!

Ok People i love my horses very much i would hate to see them kill. there the reason for life. but horses slaughter is needed. there are abused and unwanted horses out there. in the united states horses slaughter is ileagal. and now because of that the spca are packed there double booking stalls and paddocks. horses slaughter is needed. instead of abolishing it.everybody needs to make it humane. let the horses be happy and there should be limits on the horses like wight limits and what condition

keep in mind it isn't just the racing industry where horses are slaughtered. it's all over the world, and that includes all sorts of barns.we had a horse from my hunter barn that was slaughtered. i think slaughter is horrible, but not all the people in the racing business are bad. lots of times the meat packers go under cover to get these horses. i have lots of friends into racing, and i think its great what they do for their horses- treated like royalty! never seen a healthier horse in my life.

i'm in the horse racing business and i handle both claimers and stakes winners. let me make myself clear: I WOULD NEVER SEND A HORSE TO SLAUGHTER, NO MATTER HOW BADLY THAT HORSE RUNS. NEVER. yes, there are some heartless people out there in this business who do that, but there are good people too, like in every business in the entire world. keep that in mind, and don't judge the entire sport based on those disgusting people. im in the business bc i love horses, and it shows to everyone i know.
